change HD for SSD

My Toshiba Satellite L500(4y old) has 256GB HD and boots a little slow. If I put in 256GB SSD, will it improve its performance/speed?

Hell yeah.

Since they have the same capacity you can clone your drive but I would advise doing a clean reinstall of the OS.
You should even keep your old HDD as a secondary storage unit.

Yes, absolutely. I recommend EVERYONE to upgrade to SSD's. I regularly stand in the streets shouting it. Samsung 840 evo is a very good choice.

If it is 'slower' than when you first bought it, that is either a software issue (too much junk in Startup), and/or dust.

Having said that, an SSD as the C drive is a great performance enhancer.
