Looking at doing an incremental upgrade, starting with MOBOARD and CPU from P4 2.2 Intel Board to an AMD system

Questions:

1. Can I keep (will it work) the old ram until I can afford better (PC2100). Are mboards backward compatable with RAM?
2. Will windows XP work with the new setup without re-install windows from scratch?

I assume the hard drive (ultra ATA/100) and 6600 GeForce AGP will be able to carry over as long as the mboard supports....

Thanks in advance!

Thanks,

I was afraid of the Windows thing. I have one of those "restore" disks. Have to figure out if I can pull windows off of it without it doing the driver install with it.

Thanks again

You can use any XP Cd as long as it is the same as your original version and you can reuse your serial. You may need to reactivate thou, but not a big deal IMHO.

The windows serial number is the one under properties of "my computer" or is buried in the register?

I remember in win98 it was in the register but don't remember the key string title.
