Change the password

I have the Username, the Password, and the Security key of the RT N66U Dual Band 3x3 Wireless n900 Gigabit ASUS Router I bought brand new 5 months ago. I want to change the password for a stronger one and it is not giving me access to do it

At what stage does it throw you out?

Is it the Security Key you want to change or the password required to gain access to the router's settings?

What I intend is to change the Password for a stronger one.
Following instructions I got from another person, I write “http//192.168.1.1”, then I get a dialog box for me to input Username and Password.
I do it, and nothing happens.

if you don't have any specific setting on your router you can simply restore it physically by pressing the restore button right in side of the usb ports then the router will be restored to it's factory settings and you can simply access by admin admin user pass.
another option is to connect the router and try it with a physical link like LAN.some times it can't be configured by wireless client.

It may be different where you are but in the UK, some ISPs "tattoo" the customer's telephone number to the router. It's probably only to monitor usage and be able to cut the speed down but if you delete thse details by resetting the router, it may not work at all.

What name and password did you use? Putting it on a public forum won't harm you - no-one can know where your router is.

Let us suppose that I used these:

--USER: MADY

--PASSWORD: MADY_9L

--SECURITY KEY: MADY689


When the technician first installed the router, he also installed a VTech home phone that used a VOIP phone line (YAK).
Two months later I cancelled that YAK phone service because the quality of the calls was really poor. I disconnected that phone and I do not use any land phone anymore.

So, the router is used for the 2 laptops that are just in front of the router

It's probably worth doing what iXeon suggested.

I only recommended caution because I'd overlooked the fact that the router was your own and was new. There's nothing to lose if you take it back to factory settings and apply login, password and wireless security settings of your own choice.
