weird weird issue

have a new alienware...worked great out of the box hooked up to a Vizio 32'' lcd tv (Vizio VW32L HDTV40A ) running windows7.

went away for two days and shut it down. just put it on. no picture-its a cheapo hdmi cable so i instead use a better cable i have lying around. picture now appears but desktop too big (bottom toolbar half off screen and left side of desktop about half inch off the side).

been playing with settings for two hours with no luck.

alienware has a direct hdmi output i am using which appears to be controlled by the intel graphcs chip.

there is also a nvidia graphics card with html output. i can use this and use the nvidia settings to manually fit the image to the screen so it fits, but it doesn't look correct (too stretched out).

is there another solution here? so confused since it worked absolutely fine before i shut down the system.

thanks!!!!!!

Solution
right click and go into the nvidia control panel when you are plugged into the graphics card as your display device, (physically from gpu to monitor) and make sure the resolution is set to whatever your monitor is specified to run at

hmmmm sorry to be a noob. so you mean go to the nvidia control panel and manually adjust screen size to fit (have done that), then look for a option that says "full screen"?? can't seem to find that though.this option should be on the nvidia control panel?

thanks!!!!11

I have same problem. My Asus Zenbook is set to 1980x1020 just like samsung tv.when I connect by hdmi screen is slightly too large so I cannot access boxes to minimize Chrome desktop browser. since both tv and computer set to same resolution I don't see why picture on tv comes out slightly too big.
