Hi,
I built a new PC a while ago, but wanted to use my existing case, I had a really old ugly gray case lying around but its ATX compatible so I said Id use it.
old PC spec is
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.13ghz (E6400)
2gb Ram
Radeon 5670 1gb DDR5
ECS P965T-A
I took all the old components out of my existing case that I wanted to use on my new rig, and put them in the old gray one. Around the same time a friend gave me a Core 2 Duo 2.66ghz (E6700) he had lying around, so I took out the old CPU and gave it away, then replaced it with the newer one.
My old rig boots in the old gray case, but it randomly shuts down or restarts, it could be on for as little as 2 minutes or as long as 90 minutes (the longest its gone) but it always happened. I thought the power supply was on the way out, so I replaced the old PSU which was a Hiper Type R 580W with Tagan 430W. The only noticeable improvement now is that with the Hiper PSU it sometimes didn't power up at all, or after shutting down would not power up unless left for a few minutes, with the Tagan supply this happens a lot less and stays on for noticeably longer, but will eventually shut down/restart.
Any idea what might be causing this ?, other then the E6700 all those components worked perfectly in my original case, all I did with the E6700 was wipe off the old thermal paste and put on some new stuff (MX - 2 with pea method). Really want to use this old rig as a media server :-(
Thanks in advance
