Hello

I had an EVGA 470 gtx for a few years and just this week upgraded to a XFX 7970 Ghz edition. All my games ran ok on the 470 but it was starting to show its age and it was just time to upgrade so I went with the card most people seemed to recommend over the 680.

Anyway, I removed all the nvidia drivers and got everything cleaned out, then installed the new card and drivers. Most of my games run great, as good or even better than I expected. I tried Witcher 2, Crysis 2, Batman AC, Battlefield 3, and about 5 others that were all great.. But I'm having issues inside a certain few games. Black Ops 2 and Just Cause 2 for example both have some kind of issue that is causing things to become.... well I'm not sure how exactly to describe it but I've included a few pictures below.

I haven't seen it happen in anything else..Yet.. But I'm not sure what to make of this issue. Is it my VRAM? Is the card itself bad? Is this a driver issue? Is there some way these games have some kind of nvidia settings still? I am really just totally in the dark on this. I even tried reinstalling the games, verifying the game cache on Steam, and changing all the graphical settings inside the games. The issues are still there but in only these two games that I've seen so far. And it doesnt seem to effect the performance of the games either.

Even though the 7970 runs everything the way I'd hoped it would in terms of FPS with capped settings, I don't want to have to worry about this issue coming up with future purchases. I'm wondering if there's a fix for this or if I should just RMA it and get another one, or maybe even my money back and just get a 670 or 680. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Dont know if this will help anyone but I found a fix that worked for me. I posted it on another forum

Hi _______, just wanted to let you know I found fix for this, well one that worked for me anyway.

I tried about 100 different things to get this artifacting glitch fixed and this is the only thing, in this order that did it for me.

I have an XFX 7970Ghz Edition so if you have an AMD card give this a try. Go to Control Panel > Programs and Features > Add or Remove a Program > Uninstall AMD Catalyst Control Center & any other AMD/ATI programs you have there > Select custom uninstall and make sure everything is selected > once everything has been removed go to C: and delete the AMD folder > then Program Files and delete the ATI Technologies folder. Make sure you download the Catalyst 13.1 driver and then restart the computer before you try installing it.

Upon restart locate the 13.1 driver installer and run it, install everything on it and that's it. Artifact free gaming As I said this worked for me, I scoured the web too it seems that other people are having this exact issue and its related to the 13.2 beta 5 drivers that are currently out. It's probably possible to roll back to the 13.2 beta 4 drivers too but I haven't tried it myself, I found something that worked and ran with it.

Hopefully this helps you. I know how frustrating this problem is. I had just bought my 7970 about 10 days ago and had this issue from day one was about thinking about even RMA'ing my card. Good luck to you.

Yes, true. As I said in the first post I had installed and reinstalled different drivers multiple times before doing a clean install which had me a little concerned. Mostly because I'd never had to do a clean install to roll back drivers to working order on any Nvidia card I'd owned in the past, so I started to wonder if it was the drivers at all when things didnt change. Just glad it got figured out and I dont have to RMA 😀 I'll have to remember in the future I guess to do the clean install everytime with the 7970 just to be safe lol.
