Question Changing cable causes bios to appear zoomed in

Hi all, new to asking questions, so please be gentle with me... 😊

So today I bought a new displayport to hdmi lead, stated it runs 2560x1440 @ 60hz, which is why I bought it. Previously I was using a dvi-d to hdmi lead, but this would only run 2560x1440 @ 30hz.
When I used my old cable everything runs fine, but when I tried my new cable the bios screen was massively zoomed in, one windows started it would correct itself to the proper display proportions, but when I went into the advanced display settings I was still only getting option for 2560x1440 @ 30hz, I have tried a standard hdmi, and the option for 2560x1440 @ 60hz is available, but the hdmi port seems loose, so I don't like using it, and my screen would cut out randomly when I last tried using it, another reason why I bought the new displayport cable.

Does anybody have any suggestions how to fix the bios resolution and screen refresh rate issues? (I have tried reseating everything, removed CMOS battery and tried disabling fullscreen mode in the bios already.

I have an MSI B350 gaming plus MOBO, GTX1060 6GB GPU, Ryzen 5 1600 CPU, and I'm using a Phillips 4K TV.
Upgrading parts isn't an option for me.

Appreciate any help offered

because of the cable adapter;
it can be an aspect ratio problem when the display is showing the BIOS or the correct resolution not being communicated, so it defaults to something different.

check the monitor's OSD menu while accessing the BIOS and see if you can manually set the aspect ratio and/or resolution back to a normal setting.

I have tried all of the options you have suggested, none have worked, I have tried both the HDMI port and the dvi-d port, both display the bios screen regularly.
I have returned to using the dvi-d cable again and reduced the resolution down to 1920 x 1080 @ 60hz.
I'm now encountering my screen going black while gaming at random intervals regardless of what cable I use or what resolution I use.

I thank you for taking the time to reply
