Hi, I currently have an I5 4690K and I thought it was time I upgrade my CPU due to the new next gen games coming out. I have a MPOWER Max AC and was wondering if an Intel Core i7 i7-4790K CPU (Quad Core 4GHz, Socket H3 LGA-1150) would work... My friend was saying that my mobo wouldn't be big enough for it, but it must be? If anyone has any knowledge of replacing processors, could you help me and give me a step by step tutorial please?

Thanks!

You already bought it? An i5 4590k is more than enough for gaming spceially if you game at 60hz, upgrading to an i5 would be just a waste of money, getting an SSD or a better gpu with that money would be a better investment.

And the size of the motherboard has nothing to do with which cpu you will use, all you have to look at is that your motherboard supports the CPU revision, in this case if the i5 is working i say the i7 will work too. But again, dont upgrade its not cost effective.

Replacing your CPU is simple, just open the case, remove the heatsink, raise the lever that's on the cpu Socket and slowly lift out the old CPU. Then slowly place the new CPU in, line it up using the notch and gold coloured triangle in the corner and close the lever (it'll take lots of force and you'll feel like you're breaking it but that's normal) wipe off any thermal paste residue with isopropyl alchohol (or anything really) and place a small rice grain sized blob of new thermal compound on the new CPU. Then replace the heatsink. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fuGwPnWrpow

Then again, I got a GTX 770 4GB. That's good for what it does... So, say for instance, Battlefield 4, GTA V, Arma 3, Project Cars, they would run better with a GPU than a CPU? I can run GTA V most 30fps on ultra settings. Battlefield 4 40-50 very high settings. What would improve the performance, a new CPU with my specs or a new CPU?

Yes, games are mostly GPU dependant, GTA V 30fps? unless you are gaming at 1440p I dont see why you should be getting that performance, specially with a GTX 770, as you can see in my right, I have an i5 and a gtx 760 and I can run BF4 at 70-80fps, take into consideration that I game at 768p not 1080p.

Also you have to tweak settings, most of the time games have features that make little impact on visuals but have a huge impact on performace, take BF4 for example, by simply setting POST PROCESSING to low, you will gain a lot of FPS I guarantee it.

So tweak your settings would be my first advice, make sure you have updated drivers, preferably if you can have Windows 8.1/10 with HIGH Performance profile, and GPU settings set to MAX Performance also.

I was only thinking about it because I am getting the 2016 Oculus. Would I need to upgrade if I was to use an Oculus?
