[SOLVED] changing hdd for ssd

Hi I have windows7 laptop , with 1 hdd which is nearly full. I have backed up system image onto ext. hdd, and a system repair disc onto dvd. Can i install the sdd, boot from the dvd and copy the system image onto it from the ext. hdd, or do I still need to clone the system onto the sdd externally via a usb caddy? many thanks..

I would install the ssd and the external hdd and only those two.
Then I would boot from whatever app the cloning software gives you using a USB stick.
Then I would recreate the drive on the SSD using the image on the HDD.
