Hello tom's hardware! I'm back for some more advice on a budget pc. At first I was going to go with an AMD x3 build, but after browsing various websites, it seems that an Intel processor will out perform and outlast and AMD one. So this is where I turn to you guys, I am a complete newbie to the internals of a computer (I'm more of a programming C++ sort of guy) and I was wondering if I could get recommendations on a decent budet build.

Approximate Purchase Date: Sometime within the next week, waiting on my debit card.

Budget Range: ~500 before rebates

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Programming (Basic OOP), Home use, Gaming

Parts Not Required: keyboard, mouse, monitor, speakers, OS

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: newegg, tiger direct, any other reputable sites.

Country of Origin: USA

Parts Preferences: by brand or type Intel i3 processor

Overclocking: Maybe in the future, not really a priority

SLI or Crossfire: No

Monitor Resolution: 1280x1024

Additional Comments: Thanks in advance :)

Thanks for the suggestion and I'll consider it. With the 955 would over-clocking be advised? Especially for my budget or would the difference not be worth risking my cpu?

You don't have to, but if you did you'd get a lot more performance out of it. At your budget it's defiantly worth it, not a risk. I've OC'd my CPU plenty with no issues.
