Changing Laptop HDD

So recently me and my girlfriend have begun to play games together, her computer is no good at it, and I have an old laptop that would run the games we would play. Problem is, that computers CPU usage is always at 100%, so it doesn't run well at all. If I replace the HDD with a new one and flash Windows using its Windows key, would it run well again?
