I have been using ASUS MX299Q 29" IPS Ultra wide screen with resolution of 2560x1080. I love the monitor, especially the ultra wide gaming experience as well as the eye candy IPS. Only downfall of this monitor is the 60Hz refresh rate, which i OC'd it and now i'm on 115Hz but i don't really think that works most of the time.

I'm really interested into the ASUS gsync monitor and thinking what'd be like.

Has anyone gone from IPS screen to the ASUS gync monitor and think it is worth it?

It is personal preference. When going from present monitor to ROG monitor (also IPS to TN panel), you lose the 2" size and "ultra-wide", wider viewing angles and comparatively the image quality. But you get higher resolution, higher refresh rates, faster response time and the almighty GSYNC. See, it's you personal choice.

I was tempted by the new Asus monitor (currently have a dell u2711) but the price is just too high for what you are getting. $799 for a 27 inch TN monitor is asking a lot. I'm impressed with the Gsync technology but I would wait, this is one of the first Gsync monitors and prices will come down. Also, it is difficult to come down in size. 2 inches might not seem like much but it might bother you.

I understand what you mean. I planned to wait for the upcoming Benq and AoC monitors. But I'm disappointed with their new monitors. They all are 1080p resolution. Check out Phillips g-sync, its worse. Cost is $100 lower than ASUS and offers 60Hz no ULMB i think etc etc.

At some point, ASUS makes the most sense.

I don't mind losing 2" and UW, but the IPS is what i'm worried about. People are saying that the TN panel used in ASUS (8 BIT or something) is as good as IPS. Now that I don't understand and wondering if its true.

May be, read the ASUS ROG SWIFT monitor's reviews and you'll come to know. Or watch videos of that monitor, you'll get an idea.
