Im wanting to change motherboard and cpu from a z87 & i5 4670k to a z170 & i7 6700K

But i dont want to have to reinstall windows 10. i want to keep the same ssd with all my stuff on it.

My windows 10 is activated with a digital license linked to my Microsoft account so is it just as simple as taking the old motherboard & cpu out and put in the new one?

Im also currently using ddr3 ram so im guessing ill have to replace that too.

Im planning on getting a gtx 1080/1080 ti , should i just get that instead of upgrading my motherboard and cpu? would i see much difference in performance over my i5 and the new i7?

Solution
You'll have to reinstall windows eventually anyway when your computer starts giving you a bunch of little oddities because you didn't reinstall in the first place. It will "work" but not "flawlessly" and very likely "extremely annoyingly."
