Recently I've wanted to change to a new CPU (not as fast as I would like it) and a new motherboard (motherboard ram slot broke). Although I am quite certain I cannot go out and buy a new motherboard and switch my CPU, GPU, and other components to this new motherboard with no problems. I just need help on what path I should take with the components I have now with the motherboard I have, and the motherboard that will work.

Current Pc Specs:

Motherboard: M32CD-K ASUS H110M-K LGA 1151 Intel H110

Cpu: Intel Core i5 7400 - will change to a Ryzen CPU, but not for a while

GPU: EVGA GTX 1050ti SSC

Ram: 1x8gb DDR4

PSU: 350 watt Ac/bel - will change after mobo change

CPU cooler: Stock ASUS

Monitor: Acer - using HDMI NOT VGA

Solution

Any B250, H270, Z270 motherboard will work.
You may need to reinstall windows after motherboard change.
But that's about it. There should be no other difficulties.

i5-7400 is still very capable cpu. I wouldn't rush into changing it (unless software you use, requires that).

If you're planning on replacing both mobo and CPU, all your other components will still work with whatever you get. Reinstalling your OS would be recommended though.

Edit: Are you saying you have an i5 7400, and plan on upgrading? Or you want to upgrade to a 7400?
