Hello, thank you for your reply.
I am trying to change my IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers in Device manager from PCI IDE controller to an AHCI for optimal performance of my SSD. I am using this tutorial - http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-3285661/switched-ssd-windows-wont-boot-ahci.html. This tutorial needs to change the registry but every time I reboot all the settings are reset.

Yes, after making changes to the registry I restarted and went into bios. It was set to IDE but I then changed it to AHCI. Once I was on the desktop I checked and in device manager, I was still set to IDE.
