Changing SSID with Linux

Can someone please guide me as to how to change an SSID through Linux?

I tried going directly to the router using 192.168.1.1 but it wouldn't access it.

So i'm wondering how else I can do it?

SSID can only be chnaged onthe router itself via web interface or by the softwrae CD if your router came with one.

Web interface is normally accessed by 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1, username/password defaults are normally on the base on the router unless you have changed them.

How did you try accessing the router? Wired or wireless? By default, many routers have wireless administration turned off.

I am accessing it wired. It keeps saying could not establish a connection.

You need to check what IP your PC is getting. First off, I would do a full reset on router so that you can use default admin account.
