[SOLVED] Changing systems.

Hi guys, i'm building my first PC, I'm using everything new except my SSD/HDD.

What do i need to do before actually start building, with ssd/hdd.
Like deleting drivers, and how to transfer windows(i bought the windows 7, then took the free upgrade to 10, i'm assuming i can transfer it).
Do i need to do anything else?

Wipe SSD and reinstall.

You cannot transfer key to system. Need new key.

at one point you could use a windows 7 key to activate windows 10. not sure if its still doable but i did it like a week ago and it worked.

It still can, but only on the same computer the W7 key was activated on originally.

The new system needs a new key

i had windows 7 installed on this pc and upgraded to windows 10 free a while back. i used my old windows 7 key i used to use on this pc to activate windows 10 on another pc. try it.

I thought retail versions could be changed between systems.
Acording to google, could my stupid ass, doesnt know.
Something like using a slmgr on old system, to desactivate windows, then using on new system..

but idk

The type of key does dictate how many systems it can be used on. It may work.

With an oem key it wont for sure.

you only wipe the one you intend to install windows on, but windows does that during installation anyway.

i know this sounds crazy, but you could try to just connect the drive to your new system.

OS will try to pick up the new devices. worst case, you reinstall windows. but if everything works out. you keep all your files.

Since v1607, that is not necessarily true.

For the actual installed OS, a clean install on the new hardware is strongly recommended, usually required.

No. You want a fresh install.

Fresh install os always reccomended when swapping platform's. Can have driver or other conflicts with software otherwise.
