Changing the icon of a file?

Hello I'm trying to install a script extender for a game mod im trying to download but it requires me to change the desktop icon of the extender file. When I right click the file and click properties it won't give me the option to change the icon on windows 8 however. Can someone please tell me how to change the icon appearance?

Follow this:

Right click on desktop screen - click personalize - change desktop icons - click on computer - below click on change icon and choose which to choose.

But when I do that it just changes the icon of Computer to the one I selected, because the file I want to change the icon of does not appear as an option in the "Desktop Icon Settings" screen. Only options I can change are Computer, my user folder, network and recycle bin.

When I do what you say by going to personalize>change desktop icons>Computer and select an icon, it only changes the icon of Computer to the one I select.
