Hey,

So I was thinking of changing the lights in my room from a normal lamp to string lights or christmas lights, whatever I can find. I don't need it to be super bright in here at any one time so I wasn't worried about that. I assume it would be cheaper to run string lights as well since most of them are LED now. Anyway, just wanted to see what people thought of the price issue. Would string lights be cheaper per month than a lamp in the corner? Is there any issues with the wire overheating when plugged directly into the wall?

Solution
RGB LED strips are the go to now.
Cheap, reliable, and easy to work with.

Rope lights and christmas lights are not going to work as well as a purpose built strip of RGB LEDs.

Plus you can change the color, which is great.

But eventually your whole house will be LEDs, and when your favorite team scores a touch down your house will blink in team colors. Some people get an LED bug and do some really wild, cool stuff.
