Hello everyone,

I have to change my motherboard and want to do that without a reinstall of Windows. I know it is recommended, but if it doesn't work out well I still can reinstall afterwards.

My question: I am using an SSD and 2 HDDs. If I change to a new motherboard, do I have to place them in the same order or does Windows recognize them again itself? Or do I have to do something int the BIOS?

Solution
The boot drive should go in the first SATA port. The others really don't matter.

But with a new motherboard, yes...a clean install is recommended.
A lot of people write that Windows can handle mainboards changes fairly well and that most of the times a reinstall is not necessary. But what about the programms which are on other HDDs? I am having 3 drives atm, the SSD, with Win7, one HDD with Steam and another HDD for other games.

Will these games still work after it or does it need a reinstall of them not matter what it do?
