Charter Modem + Verizon G1100 Router Issue

I have a Charter/Spectrum modem DPC3216 and I am using as my wireless router a G1100 that is left over from when I had Verizon Fios.

It will connect fine for up to 7 days and then will consistently drop out. The only way to get it back is to unplug both and then plug them both back in and the connection will come right back.

Is there a reason why this is happening, perhaps a setting in the router I need to change?

How are those two routers connected?
Are you sure DPC3216 is modem only, or modem/router (even with one port only)?

I am connecting from the lan on the modem (only port there is) to the wan on the router.

It is modem only not modem + router as charter wanted to charge for a router.
