I have a pure base 600 case. It has a fan at the front and an exhaust fan at the back. The case has a switch on the front to select one of three fan speeds. The case comes prewired with two cables related to the fan, a sata cable and a fan cable. Do I need both of these? The instructions say to plug the sata cable into the power supply to control up to three fans, which I have done with an extra sata cable that came with the power supply. Do I have to plug in the fan cable too? This is a three pin male cable with one pin missing. The power supply (be quiet dark power pro 750W) has a smaller male two pin connector for fans. So I guess I'd need some kind of female female adapter?

Your fans should already be connected to the fan controller of your case. The SATA power cable (coming out of the fan controller) is needed to power the fan controller and the fans connected to it. The fan cable you see (3-pin male) is there to plug in ANOTHER fan, should you choose to add another. That cable should remain unplugged if you will only use the two pre-installed fans in your case (already connected to the fan controller).
