CHASSIS-2 FAN NOT BEING RECOGNIZED AFTER BOOTING INTO WinXP2

Once again the new 1.5 wk old system build has more glitches. My CHASSIS-2 Fan is not being recognized by the ASUS utilities after Windows XP Service Pack2 boots up. However, prior to booting up the BIOS sees my Chassis fan #2,
but in Windows XP the ASUS AI software version 1.01.15, , their latest version downloaded from their web site as of this writing, nor their PC Probe II V1.03.02, their latest version downloaded from their web site as of this writing, will not recognize it. Both utilities tell me the fan is at 0-RPM & not recognizable once in Windows.
In the BIOS all three cooling fans are seen, CPU (2800+rpm), CHASSIS-1 (1300+rpm), & CHASSI-2 (1600+rpm).
Can someone help me correct this? Thank you.

See my hardware specs below...

I have a P5B-Deluxe/Wifi and E6300 that I put together last weekend and it's doing the exact same thing.

I was able to get it to show up in windows PC Probe as well as AI Suite, but I didn't catch what I did. Then I was messing around in the case and it disappeared again.

What I originally thought worked was I disabled the Q-Fan for the chassis in the BIOS. I then renabled it, but I can't remember if I left the speed on Optimal or if I changed it. When I went into windows, it was working.

A day later I was screwing around more with it and had set it to Silent mode (this may be unrelated) but I noticed that it wasn't being detected again. I had been in and out of my case since then too so maybe it's just a loose connection.

I'll try to get it to work again when I get home from work and post what I did if you'll do the same to help me out.

Thanks. I'm about to RMA this board back. For now I'm running the front fany off of the CHASSIS-POWER connection. I shouldn't have to do this on a board that just cost me $160 less than 4wks ago.
Funny thing is that the Fans are being properly detected in the BIOS, but not after Win XP2 boots up.

Yeah, I know it's weird. The first time I noticed it, I stuck my finger in the fan (case is under the desk... too dark to see) to check if it was turning. BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZT!!! It's fine in the BIOS but not in windows.

Well, I tried it again. When I got home windows was showing 0 rpm for CHA-2. So I rebooted, entered the BIOS, turned off Q-Fan for the chassis fans, rebooted, entered the BIOS, turned Q-Fan back on, rebooted into windows... and CHA-2 is showing 912 rpm. Weird, huh?

Here's another weird thing, my AI Suite says my CPU multiplier is 6 (266FSB x 6 = 1600MHz) but CPU-z shows the correct multiplier as 7 (266FSB x 7 - 1866MHz). What's that all about??

Same here. CPU-Z says my ultiplier is at X 9.0
for my e6600. It's about right.

This morning my CHA-2 fan was reading 0 rpm again :x

I disabled Q-Fan, rebooted into windows... still 0 rpm.
I enabled Q-Fan, rebooted into windows... now it's fine.

It's got to be some problem with the Asus Q-Fan software. Does speedfan detect the chassis fans on the P5B? Maybe a third party application like this is needed to really troubleshoot the problem.

I don't know. Post the link for that util so I can download it & I quickly install it in mine to see if it detects my non-detectable fan which is hooked up on CHASSIS-2.

Yeah, that confirms that it's the motherboard, not the Asus software. I think I'll keep mine since I can get it to work if I want to. Plus, I don't really monitor my fan speeds constantly in the background. As long as the fan is working I'm fine with that.

Thanks for the help. I saw in another thread that you are going to RMA to newegg and get the DS6. I hope that works out better for you.

Yeah, but I'm afraid that when things get really hot after watching "GIRLS GONE WILD-Dorm Room Fantasies" the fan might not adjust it's speed to cool off the system appropriately. That's why I'm not taking the chance. I've ran the system 24hrs aday since I finally reinstalled all my software & not once have I heard the Chassis fans increase in speed. Only the CPU fan is what I've heard speed up. And I've been using the system the way I normally did with my previous system for video editing. Being That I just plunked down a nice chunk of change I don't want anything to happen after my return policy expires with NEWEGG, ZIPZOOM, BUY.COM & TIGERDIRECT.COM.

bump...

RECAPING FRUSTRATIONS...

TECH SUPP, ANYONE THERE, HELLO???, HELL-OOOOO...

My CHASSIS-2 connection on my ASUS P5B mobo doesn't recognize any fans after windows XP2 SP2 boots up. The BIOS sees all the fans including RPMs.
I had ASUS once before about 10 yrs ago & it looks like they haven't changed at all. I hope you never need tech supp. from ASUS. I e-mailed ASUS back on 8/7/2006 regarding this issue, no response from them. I e-mailed them again on the 9th & 10th just to give them the benefit of the doubt, guess what...still no response.
this mobo is going back to NEWEGG.COM & I'm going by ways of GIGABYTE DQ6. I hope I have better luck with GIGA since I've never had GIGA under my roof.

LOL. Can't you RTFM ??? The issue is under the P5B FAQ section.

Update to a BIOS version >= 0701 (I'm curious if you can find and install it) and PC ProbeII will work just fine.

P.S. AI Suite is useless, just install Asus Update and PC ProbeII (which I find better that Speedfan, because of Qfan support), and enjoy.

Been there, done that, F'ed-Up mobo. Returned that crap. No more ASUS under my roof ever again. Their tech supp didn't even have the courtesy of returning a phone call. Now I'm back to being a convinced Gigabyte mobo fan. I had two problems with the ASUS 965P-DQ6 (after dumping the ASUS mobo) & within 4 hrs Gigabyte called me back on two different issues & were able to help me resolve it. I hope that their joining forces with ASUS doesn't screw it up for the rest of us. Thanks for your concern & assistance, PEBKAC, LOL-ROTC-LOL .

This ASUS CHASSIS-2 subject is dead.

I know this is an old thread but I found this through Google so what can you say?

Anyway, I've also been having this problem and I have AMD as well which really is bugging me.

I have one green exhaust fan (80 mm) in the back of my case as an exhaust fan so I can feel it blowing air easily even from BIOS to windows.

The software that comes with Asus doesn't recognize it though saying its 0 RPM.

I'm like WTF! lol.

Anyway, I'll try that Q-Fan thing. Maybe that might work.
