Cheap Build < $500

Hello,

New to the site and hoping to get some help. No flaming please, I just want legit advice.

APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: Within the next month (but I am willing to wait for a good amount of time, if the payoff is worth it)

BUDGET RANGE: $500 (I have more money, but I would rather set this as the limit)

SYSTEM USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: gaming, surfing the internet, watching movies, light video editing

PARTS NOT REQUIRED: keyboard, mouse, monitor, speakers, OS, and I have an unreleased CPU "YFD C-1 [(QDF: LAN2) 3.2 GHz XEE 1600 MHz]" (which I was told is a Core2duo Extreme edition; correct me if I am wrong)

PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS: newegg.com - but any place that is reputable and has good deals

PARTS PREFERENCES: Intel

OVERCLOCKING: Maybe

SLI OR CROSSFIRE: Maybe

MONITOR RESOLUTION: 1600x1200

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: I need something that will last for a few years and play games like D3/SC2 no problem. I would like it to be quiet but it's not necessary. Performance is the most important factor. My last homebuild caused lots of trouble, overheating and a bad hdd. Yes, I know it's a pricey chip that I have, but if I don't use it in some way it will basically collect dust because we can't sell it.

I might be able to get ram, hdd, and case for free. The optical drive I can probably get for free as well. So, depending on what I can dig up, the amount that I can spend may end up covering mobo and video card.

Like I said, I am willing to wait if it is worth it. I know that this build will not unleash the full potential of this chip, but that's why I need help making something that I can upgrade. Thanks for the help. I've read a lot on this forum and look forward to some good advice.

So you need a build with no cpu correct? never heard of such yfd c-1 3.2ghz thing you speak of.

I have that unreleased CPU. If you search up that exact title, google will come back with results from another forum which a poster said "YFD C-1 [(QDF: LAN2) 3.2 GHz XEE 1600 MHz] This is either QX9770 or QX9750. They tested on X38 board but I prefer P45 or X48 board."

Ah, ok. Should be able to put in a P45 with a 4770 build then no problem.

You have a QX9770 and you want the rest of the build to cost <$500...what a waste of a chip! You do realize that the chip you are going to use retails for over $1000 right?

Thats just barely over $500 with shipping, and then you get $80 in rebates.

Yeah, i know its a pricey chip. But not using it at all and leaving it as a paper weight would be worse. Anyway, the chip cant be sold.

Assuming that you are asking why it cannot be sold: It's given to only intel employees who worked on the project and was never released to the public. There may be something with liability issues. To be honest I don't know. If I could sell it, an extra $1000 would have been nice for bills or college tuition fees at one point.

Anyway, I think I found my final build. I got:

GPU: HIS Hightech H485FN512P Radeon HD 4850 512MB 256-bit.
Case: Mystique
Ram: ocz 2 x 2gb
HDD: 2 x 320 gb Hitachi
PSU: 500w cool master
Heatsink: Asus Triton
Optical drive: I have a few options here
Mobo: The Asus P5Q Pro p45 or Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P
