Just thought I'd share my new rig/scores with you guys. Bought a 1700 tbred B for £43, some ramsinks and a copper cooler for the radeon for £44. Total of £87. Now I can stay
above 345/325 no problem.

Scores and system in sig.

SHOW-OFF!

NICE!

Seems like a good investment. I'm thinking of poping a BARTON in here since they are now so cheap. Or even upgrading the MOBO (to dual channel DDR [need to buy another Corsair XMS PC3200 then though]), but then I think, WHY? Mine plays most of the things I want sans-problemo, and the only thing it would likely do is improve my benchmarks and reduce my wallet/bank account. Considering I don't even overclock my CPU (except for comparing Benchmarks like todays Raymark test, to see if it GPU or CPU centric), I don't think I'll get any benifit out of it. I'm waiting for the Athlon64 to decide my next move (since it will require a whole new MOBO + Setup). Save money (well move it from computer spend to beer, but whatever I won't notice, errr remember, the difference).

However in your case it sounds SWEET, especially up from the last CPU (global performance increase).

Nice job. Now get sparkly things and post it in GW v. WS rig showdown.

I too was going to hold off for a nice athlon64 chip, but this setup was so cheap and I couldnt resist the new 1700's(under £300 spent alogether on mobo, cpu, memory and heatsinks) for a rig thats faster than a 3200 or 3.06 cpu and snapping at the heels of the mighty 3.0 800fsb cpu. If i'd have gone that route, then I would be £600 out of pocket. Hmmm what to spend the extra 300 on now? Vapochill and take this sucka to 2.6ghz ? lol :p

Cheers mask. Seems the AS3 on the ATI core just needed a week to form good contact to the copper hs. It will do 356/335 with only slight artifacts in 3dm03 and get me 5338 and 16973 in 01, but I think I found the sweet spot for both cpu and gfx.

not too shabby. You edge me out in my scores by a little. I should have my "new" T-bred 1800+ in by saturday (I hope). right now I am stuck with my 1700+ pally. I am hoping to beat my AXP 2200+ scores which you have beaten.

It helps to have goals and someone that you can aim to beat. Thanks for being the one I am aiming to beat. ;)

MMMmmmm I can almsot smell the Fried Silicon now.

Yes, nice, bouquet, strong lead undertones, a little hint of Sass; perhaps some flavours reminiscent of GW's R9500P.

Just watch yourselves. Now let the Arc-welding begin! <- Goggles!

Faster than a 3200 eh? So its faster than 2.2 ghz?

What are you running this thing at (multi & fsb)?

What do you have in the way of cpu cooling?

1700s generally dont go past 2100-2200 mhz on air cooling.

Im on the edge in terms of cooling and voltage really for this cpu. Im using the SK-7 and 2 smartfans @ 4,000rpm (total of about 120cfm lol). I get 50C idle and 55 load. Will probably go down once the AS3 compound settles, and its a little warm here, as my old 2100 @ 2.3ghz ran hot at first, then went down to 49c idle and 54 load after a few weeks of running...

BTW the core is almost pure grey in colour, hopefully once its settled in ill be at 2.4ghz+ or maybe 2.5 with watercooling or a 900u :p

As for the radeon, im amazed how much a few weeks makes. The arctic silver must be working at its best now. Im sooo impressed that i can stay above 345 core with no artifacts.
On stock I could go to maybe 334 without ANY artifacts and I got it to 337 or there abouts with a fresh install of AS3 and the cooler. Now it goes upto 355 with only the odd white dot, and thats after a few hours of 3dmark 03.

Gonna set a record for me today. Gonna set it to 360/334 and go all out on the benchies :p. And yeah I love the smell of fried silicon, only time I got a wiff though was when I oc'd a 233 pentium to 333 :)
