I want to put my Computer in my basement and run one (!) cable up in my room, where I have a device like this Thunderbolt 2 Docking Station to hook up my monitors and keyboard and mouse. My problem is that I need a cable with around 50m length, there are options but they seem to start at 1900€, which is a pretty high price for a cable. So my question is: Are there cheaper options or alternatives (maybe USB 3.1?).

Thank you in advance
Ole

(Sorry for the german Amazon links)

Solution
When running any Thunderbolt/HDMI/USB you should look at converting the signal to Cat5,6 or 7 as they have high bandwidth, low signal loss and can be run up to 200 feet.

Example
Thunderbolt to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter
HDMI Extender Over Cat5e or Cat6 Cable

This will get you into the right direction, you can look up the appropriate adapters, every output you can come up with on a PC has a Cat 5 adapter.

Solution

My room is under the roof of the house, my highest measured temp was (believe it or not) 47°C. So I thought I could move the PC to a point where it is cool the whole year (Basement) . We have a old chimney, so I thought I could run the cables through it.

You are a genius.

Makes sense.

Definitely use delaro's method then.
