I need server for work with an accounting program (doesn't seem to demanding, the program is based on SQL) 4-5 users will use that program daily.

I need a backup for the whole OS and the data, because reinstalling software and re-setting all databases costs very much and only the accounting program provider can do that. Maybe you have encountered such issues and have a solution for this? So far i found that RAID 1 could help me do this.

Here is a build i plan to use for the server https://pcpartpicker.com/list/8b9Ghq

  • AMD FX-8350 4.0GHz 8-Core Processor
Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler
    Asus M5A78L-M PLUS/USB3 Micro ATX AM3+ Motherboard (AMD Radeon™ HD 3000)
    Kingston HyperX Fury Black 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1866 Memory
Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive x2
SeaSonic 520W 80+ Bronze Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply
Fractal Design Node 804 MicroATX Mid Tower Case

I've read that these new AMD processors are better at multi tasking and since the server will be constantly used be 3-5 people it seemed like a better choice. So i tried to make a build around it with the parts i can find in my country. Maybe an i5, like 6500 would be better?
16GB ram seems like an overkill, but i don't know how much of a load they could get so i put more to be safe.
Maybe someone could suggest a build? cheaper and smaller would be better.

Just to clarify: You're planning on using an old HD 3000 card for video output to the server? Keep in mind most AMD boards don't support on board video, so it's usually necessary to have a dedicated GPU as you do. Also, how urgent is this server? If it can wait until a little into 2017, AMD will be releasing new processors with a sizable performance/efficiency increase. RAID 1 is generally the best for backup, so you should be good there. This thread may be of some help to you. http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-1781411/home-server-cpu-question-intel-xeon-amd-83xx.html

Solution

No the motherboard already has HD 3000. No there is no urgency, I have a dilemma, build an i5 based server or an AMD.
Thank You for clarifying on the RAID 1 issue :)
