Cheap ssd or name brand?

Solution

Prices for the 860 EVO at Amazon are particularly good right now.
$68 for the Inland vs $88 for the top ranked 860 EVO.
If the $20 difference is your breaking point, skip a single Pizza Hut.

5 years from now, the Samsung will still be operating at near 100% efficiency. The Inland, probably not.
Go for something in the middle. The Crucial MX500 is a very good SSD for the money and in the real world will have not difference between it and the Samsung.

The Inland Pro SSD you selected is a DRAM less SSD which affects caching and will hurt performance in some instances. It really depends on what your are using the SSD for. If you want to run the Inland as a boot drive, there will be a difference. But if you are just putting games on it, then the Inland will run just as well as the Samsung.

The Crucial MX500 series are also up there in quality. Can't go wrong with those, they're competitve with the Samsung. I'd say between Crucial MX500 and Samsung 860 EVO, get whichever is cheaper at the time.

I have a 500GB Samsung 860 EVO and a 500GB Crucial MX500 in my PC.

The only redeeming value in the inland unit is price.
The 860 evo has a 5 year warranty.
The inland has a 3 year warranty.
Nuff said there.

Past that, cheap brands rely on replacing defective units under warranty as more economical than producing a product with lower field failure rates up front.

I don't particularly care about the best performance i just want something better than a hard drive also the mx500 is more expensive than the samsung ssd on amazon am I looking in the wrong place?

Not at all. They tend to go on sale at different times it seems. Got my Samsung before Crucial released their MX500 series, and then a few months later got the Crucial when the price was notably below the Samsung.
