This would be a tertiary, no maybe quaterary device. I'm a PC guy, not a phone person, although I have an older iphone and it's enough computer like I can muddle my way thru it, but it's not my preferred method. But I want something I can just leave in the garage, leave hooked up to the sound system as a glorified MP3 player, and at times do some light internet work. I'm old enough even with reading glasses a 4.5" screen leaves much to be desired, but it seems there are cheap smartphones with large screens out there today. As a 4th level device I don't want to spend a lot on it and I'm not even going to think about doing a network with it. I hear great things about Amazon Fire devices, but also some rants. But I'm not looking for a whole lot of software, mostly internet and music capability.

Suggestions, recommendations, opinions, even insults, all are welcome.

Solution
I use my old phone on the porch. An S5 that is water resistant.
And I use a tablet in the kitchen Asus TF101.
Both are connected to sound systems.
Cheap Fire tablets have terrible sound chips ,so not so great for music.( have a couple of those also).
It depends on the quality of music you prefer.
If you are listening to low quality MP3s then it will not make much difference.
But if you are streaming high quality codecs or .cda(CD) files it makes a huge difference.

A galaxy Tab 8 is about $100-120 and has a decent sound chip and screen. Much better than Fire tablets.
