Hi.. I current have a Lexmark Z31 printer which is out of ink, and don't want to replace both cartridges because its a ripoff (£50-60 - could buy a brand new printer for that with new cartridges already in).

I don't do any photo prints.. and very rarely any colour stuff at all, so if it's just a black and white printer it wouldnt be too much bother: The main requirements are for it to print text, to work in Windows XP, to be a cheap printer in the first place (don't mind getting off of ebay if necessary) and also to have cheap or a great price per page with the cartridges. I don't want to go down the Lexmark route of cheap printer, then finding replacing both cartridges cost more than the original printer did in the first place :/

I'm in the UK if that makes any difference.

Thanks

I just bought a Epson C84 for 80 bucks after a 20 dollar rebate at OfficeMax. Canon gets good reviews for it`s line of cheap printers. Goodluck!

I want to die like my Grandfather...in my sleep...not screaming in terror like his passengers.

Lexmark can be refilled with ink refill from Wal-Mart (or some equivalent in UK😉, but the cheapest black ppp (PricePerPage) has Canon, then HP (1 cent difference at most) while HP has the best quality of the text print.

..this is very useful and helpful place for information...

Lexmark is very smart, they trick pipel with close to nothing ppp (PricePerPrinter😉 and then make up and upper with the ink, caz usually pipel are lazy/poor/screwed to get a normal printer (caz they already have a Printer🙁) and just buy the cartridjez.

How you can recommend Canon is beyond me. I have one and it uses more ink than any other printer I
have ever owned. Plus the ink is very expensive. Like to see your data.

canon and epson make the best inkjet printers, everything else is a joke. If i were in the market for a mid range inkjet printer, I would go canon without a doubt. I am a printer service technician and have seen more printers than you know about. (@ scristaldi - It depends on the canon printer you have, there are many different models, if you have one with a tri colour ink cartridge, then yes, that ink will be used up quickly since there is not much in the cartridge. You will find there is not much difference between brands when it comes to the low end printers with 3 in 1 colour cartridges.) If you just want a cheap b&w printer, get a laser printer. If you only use it every now and then, the toner that comes with it will last you a lifetime.
