Cheap X3 Build

My old PC packed up, since it was about 5 years old a replacement is in order. Looking at an X3 720 BE system. From my old PC I have 2 optical drives and a HD which I was going to use in this build (not sure if I can actually do this). I'm a student so my budget is not too big either, the less the better. I use my pc for casual gaming, frapsing and video editing(from the games) and general work (I also use Matlab for my degree - but this is last on the list)

I have an XFX 8600GT 256 DDR3 graphics card from my old pc which I was thinking of using for the time being but I can be swayed for a new card, if it is a massive upgrade from my current card for around £100, any suggestions on the parts and graphics card would be great.

swap that PSU for a decent 500w.

and I believe the 4870 costs about £115 if you can stray over your budget a bit and it will own that 8600gt.

also that ram is pricey, get some OCZ gold 1066mhz from overclockers.co.uk, not to mention that cpu cooler won't be much better than the stock one.

Thanks for the help, I changed to the suggested ram (it says 8500 will that work??)and added the graphics card(looks great) I don't know much about PSUs but OCZ StealthXStream 500w seemed like a good choice(based on reviews and brand)

I also removed the CPU cooler, is there any alternatives around the £10-20, I just wanted to OC the X3 a little bit but will I have to add a much more expensive cooler to do that?
