hey guys.

I was getting into 3d modelling and have been a blender nerd for a solid 3 months now. I then tried out a software called "meshroom", this software mushes (yes that is the correct adjective)all of the pictures together and gets a 3d model. this is great for getting started but, I was thinking about selling the models online. the resolution (not vertices but the weird bumps) is just not there. so I have been looking into dedicated 3d scanners, so as any decent consumer does, I loaded up google. googled 3d scanner, and I am going to be totally honest I think I wet myself when I saw the price tag of mostly over £1,000. I then saw the light of this scanner

this scanner sounded great on the product page but I then looked at the reviews and they where mostly negative. I was wondering if that was just people not understandind this or if I should go for another scanner. if I should go for another scanner what would you recommend within a budget of £200(that's around $220).

thanks in advance,
Tom

is it mostly because of the sketchiness of the product?
That, and I almost certainly wouldn't buy anything from banggood on principle.

And that is absolutely not just Windows Defender.

The 3D laser scanners are problematic until you start getting into the industrial stuff. Especially for things larger than a square foot. It's not just the scanner itself, but the amount of data to calculate. Most of the poor reviews are from people trying to make it work with a tablet. I would pay attention to the reviews and ignore the marketing bs.
The photoscan methods will produce better results for a prosumer. There are ways to achieve better results with a photoscan by eliminating environmental variables. A tripod, turn table, and consistent lighting.

mostly because I discovered that I was more lazy than I thought

Blender is used to create a 3D model.
A 3D scanner creates a 3D model from a physical object.

So you'd be using the 3D scanner to scan a physical object into a 3D representation, and selling that software model?
Pretty sure thats not how it works. At least, not for any interpretation of "making money".

their are sites like turbosquid where people can buy and sell 3d models in exchange for money. these models can either be scanned or modelled. for example the other day I modelled a cutlery set in blender then sold that online.

Yes, this is true.
I'm heavily into the 3D model world as well, having a reasonably good 3D printer.

A model you create and sell is one thing.
Scanning in a common item and selling that is a whole other thing.

Money is made from creative work. Not just copy/paste.
Your ROI in a scanner that can produce production ready models will be quite a long time.

thanks, you have been really helpfull. I will do that now.
Personally, I wouldn't buy it.

5 Stars:

"I have not yet constructed it, but it seems very well made. Seems that the parts are there, I will construct it as soon as possible and review it then better. For now, its very good choice and price! "

"But the video is not equal to the supplied scanner. The calibration of the scanner has not been successful until now. Who can help me? "

4 Stars:

"This the first time that I´m using this comment to complain about one product from Banggood, the product is not the same as showing in the video assembly, lack information, the housing is not the same as the video, the interface is complete different, I´m really disappointed with this product, hope it is works well"

One of the 4 Stars shows a malware report, included on the USB that it comes with.

I'll pass.

Here are some actual scans. I wouldn't take any review from a person using a tablet seriously. If there is a review from a person using a serious piece of hardware, I would take it seriously. Anything from the company is going to be <Mod Edit> with the maker community. They take their selling queues from silicon valley execs who oversell crap as the next leap forward.
Right now people taking photo scans of natural objects like ground, plants and rocks are making some money since it's something in demand. These are mostly done with high resolution cameras and overcast skies over dozens of photos. A compilation of the images typically produces highly accurate base color data, but the geometry needs rework.
