OK, I finally got my internally showered rig up and running....YAY!

But I had so much fun rebuilding, that I want to build a challenging MITX rig....for 1080 Gaming and CAD and Office. To do that I plan on transplanting the I5-4670k into the MITX....that will leave a noticeable hole in my old rig. That is a problem since I want to use it and its 15 TB of HDD storage as a NAS.

SO: what is the cheapest 1150 Intel CPU I can put into my 'newly' minted NAS and get decent performance?

Thanks for the help, all,

Larry

Well you could probably get away with a Pentium at the absolute lowest (most prebuilt NAS devices have even weaker Celeron and even ARM processors in them). But for me I really don't like going for less than an i3 (for safety). Looks like you can snag a i3-4130 for under $80 used on ebay.

That makes good sense....particularly if I should choose to stream to one user.

Thanks!

Yeah that's my line of logic. I just kind of assume you'll end up doing a little bit more at some point. Be sure to check the prices on the lowest end i5 too. It's not that much more than the i3 so depending on you budget you may not mind spend the few extra to get it instead.
