So I have a 2060 that is more than capable enough to handle 35" 3440x1440 @ 100hz no doubt, but I recently wanted to get into VMs and VFIO etc..

Basically I need a GPU that is capable of displaying 3440x1440 @ 100hz, because I want to pass the 2060 into the VM. (or the new GPU but having a backup gpu is not a bad idea [other reasons])

I would buy it used of course, to bring the price as far down as possible. This GPU is mot supposed to be great, but simply enough for me to view the virtual machine.

The lower the TDP, the better. (I doubt passive cooling exists for cheap & dp 1.2).
I already have a room heater & power-bill pump, I don't want to waste more energy and make the room unbearably hot.

Solution
3440x1440 @ 100hz, even at 12bits is only 20.81Gbps.

DP 1.4 is 25.92 Gbps

144hz would be pushing it up to just under 30 Gbps.

Thank you.

I did see the 1030 during my own research but I think I couldn't find a cheap used one and the fact that the bandwith is maxed out @ 14GBit/s 2560x1440 @ 144hz.
Mine is 3440x1440 @ 100hz.

I don't know, how but I read somewhere that a bandwith of 28GBit/s is needed (could be wrong).

It's still a good recommendation and I have discovered some used cheap ones but the bandwith concerns me.

I absolutely LOVE the TDP though. Only 30W! That might be the perfect card. If the bandwith plays out, as described before, then it's without a doubt at the top, due to the extremely low power consumption.

I would think that you could still use the GPU to do both. Why does the VM need exclusive access to the GPU?
Regarding that, yes but the performance and 3d acceleration would be terrible.
If you pass the GPU to the VM, it acts as if the VM grnuinely has a 2060 in it. It does make a big difference.

Also, VFIO (single GPU passthrough) exists but to me is dangerous. I don't like the whole reflashing your GPU firmware part and constantly attaching detaching it between host and guest.
