Hey guys, im currently building a pc but im short on the gpu and i get payed next month. So the cpu does not have integrated graphics. I have a old geforce 8400 gts 512mb but i dont know if it can handle everyday tasks. What is the cheapest gpu i can buy on amazon that can do that?

Solution
As Herc08 says, it depends on what you'd want to use it for. But everyday tasks the 8400 will be fine. If you want to do gaming, then you'll need to consider otherwise.

If you wanted something still dirt cheap with a little bit more bang for your buck a GT 710 would also do fine. Again, not much for gaming but its a bit more powerful than a 8400 and is only about £20.

Everyday tasks, your 8400 will be fine. Gaming, you'll need to clarify what you interpret as cheap really.

Solution
It should most likely work, though the 8400 GS was a low-end card when it first came out 10 years ago, so I would not expect much from it. Even some things like decoding certain HD video streams could potentially perform poorly if the video player decides to use the graphics card to decode in place of software decoding by the CPU. If you need a card to use for the time being it will probably work well enough though.
