Don't know where to put this post...

I recall when internet used to be cheaper, now you pay outrageous prices (seemingly) for what you had years ago. I used to get internet for $15/mo - $20/mo; now I see it STARTING at $39.99 and they tell you that's a good deal. No, it isn't.

I'm looking for internet at under $20/mo, 10mbps or faster. Where can I get it?

Oh and I don't have a student in the student lunch program and I'm not on any type of government assistance, nor am I interested in any of that.

Not willing to pay over $20/month, and not willing to get less than 8Mbps.
I think your options are pretty...
depends where you are in the states. if your area is covered by verioson/comcast/at&t you will have little choice unless your local municipality allows local providers. currently the big 3 are trying to get competition in the areas they operate in squashed. by either buying up the smaller providers or buying off local lawmakers to introduce anti competitive laws that forbid them to start up in the first place.

if your lucky you may be in a google fiber area. if so thats what you want to be looking at.

It was also the times when 1mbps wat great speed, and NetZero' $5/mo dial-up was a stealer!

Over the last 15 almost 20 years, my 'broadband' has gone from 1Mbps down, to currently 50Mbps down
Price has gone from $60/month to ~$40 month

Adjusted for inflation, 1/3 the price for 50x the speed.

Where do you live and what is available in your area?

Well, Comcast isn't available at my house at this time, so I don't have a whole lot of options. And the few options that do exist are IMO price gouging. I'm not paying it. I have internet where I work and freedom to do pretty much whatever I want on the internet at work, but I'd like to have internet at home too, but I'm not willing to pay over $20/mo and I'm not willing to get anything under 8mbps. So I'm at an impasse for now I guess. I suppose if I were a single parent with 10 kids on welfare I could get internet for $10/mo at 5mbps but you know, I really don't want to be a single parent with 10 kids on welfare. Lol

Well...what are your options at your residence? From who, how fast, how much?

I think your options are pretty limited, IMHO.
