Hi,

So, I'm planning a build and am stuck on what gpu I should buy to get my pc up and running.

I'll be using a Xeon E3-1241 v3...so no on-board graphics. I'll also be waiting for Polaris/Vega to be released before I make decision about which gpu I'll buy i.e Polaris/Vega/Pascal. So, I'll need something in the interim. The cheapest I can find. I'll be running Windows 10 and watching videos. I won't be gaming.

Any suggestions?

Why would it be a waste of money?

it wouldnt the 750ti is pretty much the cheapest for gaming however since you wont be gaming almost any card will do

what about this...

GIGABYTE GV-N210D3-1GI (rev. 6.0) GeForce 210

?

what about this GIGABYTE GV-N210D3-1GI (rev. 6.0) GeForce 210

so any card will work? no issues with windows 10 support? will these types of cards play videos?

Honestly, don't buy new. Buy used off of eBay, craiglist or Tom's (etc.). Make sure it works. I got a 770 4 GB off Craigslist for $100, and I got 2x GTX 560 Ti's for $80. Both work great. I would say, especially if you're not gaming, you could get a GTX 550 Ti or 560 and be totally fine. If you go AMD, you can usually find something even cheaper. if you do want to buy new, by all means go for it!

Here are some cheap GPU's (new):

if you going to gt 210, or gt 520, need to disable window 10 auto driver update.
as far as I know latest nvidia driver don't support gt 210 or 520

what your screen resolution?

BYy the looks of it the gt 310 isn't supported by windows 10. I have windows 7. The free upgrade to win 10 programme ends if at the end of July, right? So, I guess I will use win 7 with the gt 310 until I get my new gpu and then upgrade to win 10 after that. Can anyone see any problems with this?

I'll have it connected to a 42" LCD TV @1080p

SO, I'm guessing that I'll need a VGA/DVI to HDMI cable..

depend, AMD gpu might be close, not sure when Polaris will be available or enough stock, Vega will be end of the year. You could get pascal now.
And yes free windows 10 is July 29th. not 31st

I have to wait cause I'm not going to spend on a current gen gpu and then sell it down the line at a loss after the inevitable price drops and then buy Polaris/Vega/Pascal.

I think I'll take my chances with the 310 and hope that your suggestion about not enabling driver updates on win 10 works.
