[SOLVED] Cheapest Possible Graphics Card for 1440p (Not for gaming)

My dad has recently bought a 1440p monitor (because he wanted a 27" inch screen so I told him that 1080p might look a bit fuzzy) that he only uses for productivity, browsing the internet emails etc. However, the computer he's running it on is old (acer aspire m3920) and has integrated intel graphics. I tried adding 2560x1440 as a custom resolution but this exceeded the memory bandwidth. Would it be possible to buy a cheap (sub £50) graphics card that will work with the 1440p monitor?

Thanks for any help

Hi,

If you use the iGPU, please post it here, otherwise i will assume it is a sandy bridge part and i will leave this answer here for you, found on intel's website .

"For 2nd and 3rd Generation Intel® Core™ Processors the maximum supported resolutions are:
  • DisplayPort 1.1 = 2560x1600 at 60 Hz
  • HDMI 1.4 = 1920x1200 at 60 Hz
  • DVI (Single-link) = 1920x1200 at 60 Hz
  • VGA = 2048x1536 at 75 Hz "
edit: Get a used 4gb rx470 and game with your dad lol, should be dirt cheap and try to aim for a sapphire model.

Thanks for your reply, the processor is an i5-2300, could I buy a cheap dedicated graphics card so I don't have to use the iGPU? I don't think the pc has a display port.

Do watch out, the rx470 will require a pcie cable from your power supply(8pin) and will occupy 2 slots in your case.
If you are considering nVidia, you could go for a used GT1030, requires no pcie cable and only takes up one slot but please go for a ddr5 model, not ddr4
