Could you suggest a 60gb-120gb SSD under £100 that will noticeably improve performance of a new PC build when compared to a HDD.

I just want an SSD for my operating system, a few apps and MAYBE a game. 60 gb is enough, but I've heard super cheap flash SSDs are actually slower than HDDs and can create bottlenecks!!!

Please Help!

UPDATE:

What about this

Practically any SSD will be faster than an HDD.

I'd go for an 840 EVO. Samsung makes some of the best SSD's on the market and the 840 EVO is one of them (a great SSD at a great price).

You don't need to put a game on your SSD, it will only improve load times. Any 7200 RPM HDD should be sufficient for gaming purposes.

Sort of true. SSDs always have better random read/write throughput.

There are crappy ones out there, but they are all an improvement.

100 is way more then enough. Why settle for 60 or 120, when you can get 256? Also about the best bang for the buck.

A little less expensive.

Your budget also allows for the fastest speeds, such as:

(Though the 256GB drives are generally faster)

They have a firmware fix out for a performance issue on the EVO. More of a bandaid then a solution. To maintain performance you have to keep wiping them. The firmware update has it shuffle the data around to avoid this, decreasing endurance.

Didn't even think of that, thanks. I saw they had released a 'fix' but I had not read too much about it.

I would now go with your suggestion of the Crucial. 850 Pro would be nice too, if OP doesn't mind spending a bit extra.

Yeah, not sure how that didn't turn up in their testing.

I have a regular 840 and it doesn't have the issue. Both of the Pros seems to be fine as well. Just something with the controller/early 3D V-NAND.

Yeah, must be.

I have an 840 Pro and it's fine, still performs great :)
