hi there, i always wanted to build a dual xeon pc build as a hobby and collection. i dont have a huge budget and all those CPUs i saw costs more then 1k each 🙁

I need suggestion for 2 CPUs and a motherboard.
i would really appreciate if anyone can suggest me something with 2011 socket.

not for anything huge, it was one of my life goal to get one. will play dota2 and watch movies. and other stuffs such as browsing net, doing basic office work and etc.

budget is around 1k USD for 2 cpus + motherboard, i have rest of the components . can compromise if i get a good deal. i already have 5960X in my workstation.

thanks in advance guys :)

Dual CPU's aren't going to benefit gaming, browsing or anything else. Getting the cheapest CPU is going to compromise your per core speed and anything that isn't heavily multithreaded is going to suffer and a 2.2ghz Xeon will get beat by a 4ghz I3 in anything that favors single core boosts.

Then comes the fact that a lot of dual cpu server boards are a weird form factor, which means expensive cases and/or PSU's.

Seriously this has to be a troll post but ill bite for it 😛

Ok for your xeon web browsing experience i would go for the E5-2637 V3, Boy howdy, this bad boy will youtube like a boss and rock your little world like no other CPU ever could. and for a awesome price of about £900 ($1362.24) per unit why not have 4! everyone needs spares!
Get 2 of those bad boys and assuming you are still rocking that sun bleached yellowed old Expanded ATX case from the late 90's you might wana slam them into the Asus Z9PE-D16 for £340 ish ($514) and knowing how hungry Google Chrome is for all your Rams! id slam the max ammount of 512gb of the Fastest DDR-III you can get, Good value for speed would be the crucial ECC DDR-III Ram, so thats 16 sticks of 32gb modules at about £299 per unit so thats £4784 ($7241)

That should about do it i think, total cost is £6924 ($10480) for the core of the system, so pretty cheap for a web browser in the early 80's.

on a serious note, an i7 is overkill for what you need, you can get a pretty good i5 for some good cash and 16gb of ram will last forever and a day. sorted :)

@markj595 nope this was not a troll post and i have mentioned my budget which is 1000 USD for motherboard and 2 processors. I already have a workstation powerful enough for my job.

I always wanted to build a 2 processor computer. i sold my personal (media & gaming) PC which was i5 2nd gen. this is one of the things on my wishlist to build a 2 CPU computer in a phantom 820 case.

i already have the case. what i need is suggestion for cheap units of xeon and a motherboard. i have already figured out a LGA1366 solution but i am looking forward for a LGA2011 socket 2 processor setup in my phantom 820 within my budget. thank you anyway for taking your time to answer.

its unlikley you will be able to build a 2011 socket xeon unit for the costs you are looking at, but with a 1366 unit you have got a lot more capability, there are a few HP units going out there with some very nice specs and ability, im personally using a 1366 xeon HP Z400 workstation, i believe the z600 is a duel xeon configuration. and those are not too expensive at all.

i figured out that i can make dual x5560 setup with z800 mobo for about 230$ USD (including shipping, price for 2 CPU and 1 motherboard and power pin adapter)

If i throw in another 50$ then you get 2 units of Cooler Master T4, and for another 50$ you get 6x2gb ddr3 ram.

then for psu put another 80$ for a 800w PSU and 120$ for case (which needs to be modded) or 160$ for a case with hptx mobo support.

thats your whole system without GPU for under 600$ with dual CPU. and for the GPU you can use anything with 200w max tdp and your good to go with a great system!
