I'm getting upgrading from an i3 2100 (on an Intel Desktop Board DH61WW) to an i5 4690k. So I need to get a cheap z97 mobo for supporting and OC'ing the CPU(if necessary).
So initially, I thought I'd get either the MSI PC MATE or the GIGABYTE GA-Z97-HD3. Cuz they cheap af.
But then I read that they are both 4 power phase mobo's, and that reduces the OC capabilites.
So then I checked out ASUS Z97-A and the ASRock Z97 EXTREME4.
BTW, system build with everything: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/drT43C
But then, how much OC do I really need for gaming? Or is un-bottlenecking my GTX 970 (Which I will probably upgrade to a 980Ti in the near future) all I need to do?
TL;DR: Cheapest z97 mobo for gaming OC? Also is OC necessary for improved performance(to how many GHz?)?
Thanks.
