My dad asked me to build a system for him. He didn't have a firm budget but in the 800 to 1200 is preferred.

He doesn't game, but wants a dedicated video card. He is worried integrated graphics won't be enough especially since he doesn't build or upgrade very often. He wants the machine to last a LONG time. He uses it for home office work, internet, you tube etc..

He doesn't really like RGB. If some components have LEDs that OK, but not preferred.

I was thinking he needed a machine with a good mount of memory and a big SSD so he won't have to add anything to the machine for a while.

There are cheaper options for Windows 10.

For no games, you don't need a video card, the onboard video in modern CPUs will handle even 4k video.

CPU can also be lowered, basic use can go with a cheaper CPU, even for many years of use.

SSD size, how much storage is being used now? Unless someone is saving movies, a lot of pictures, installing large programs on the system a 1 TB drive may be too much.

The PSU is good, but is more high end than is needed for a non-gaming setup.

I am pretty sure that the 3400G is not supported by the B550 chipset.
You need an older B450 board

Something like this would be more than enough for the uses you described and can easily be upgraded at any time if the need arises.

I am pretty sure that the 3400G is not supported by the B550 chipset.
You need an older B450 board

Yes 3600 is supported, not the 3400 which is not a "real" 3rd gen past the name. The 10th gen i3 is a great choice also.

Thanks for your replies. I showed these to him.

We will try the build first without a video card. He also doesn't need the network card since he has a cable where the machine will be.

He liked the Meshify case and will go with that. He will think about the other recommendations too.

I do suggest doing the build with the CX M vs the standard CX power supply, not having extra cables sitting in the case is pretty nice, especially if you use a case with a window and it's easier to hid them.
