Checking out HDDs

Hello,
I have about a dozen or so HDDs and before I throw them out I would like to test them if still good or bad. Neiyher one ofcourse will boot my PC but there should be a way of testing them. Is there?

Use http://www.gaijin.at/en/dlwipedisk.php to erase all data on them. Because it overwrites every sector on the disk, it will also tell you, if the disk works.
