Checking to see what's accessing 'Net

Maybe it's just all the little script kiddies home from kindergarten over the summer but my 'Net connection seems to have slowed. I have a DSL connection. I have a Seagate NAS attached to the router.

Is there a way or any software that can check to see what apps are accessing the internet? Even tho I have Norton running I'm still leery of uninvited guests.

If you are running win 7, you can always look at your network connection in the resource monitor. At a command prompt, running netstat -a will show you any open ports which can help determine which programs are using the network.

I'd show the entire list but I can't remember how to pipe the output to a file.

Those look like connetcions from your browser. Close your browser and email and after the TIME-WAIT period has expired, those connections should shut down. Remember, a single program can have many simulatneous connections open. It doesn not mean someone is trying to break into your network.

The resource monitor in windows 7 shows programs using the network, not connections, so the list is smaller and easier to read.
