News Chinese-made DeepSeek AI model collects extensive user data — stores it on China-based servers

90% of people have no info that any gov would care about & that data is already collected (by private companies & their own govs) all time via multiple sources.

if you are "that" paranoid just run it in a sandbox or on a dummy device thats only used for junk stuff (thus they never get anything of value)

You know what? At this point, I don't care.
altman/elon/zucker/gates have a long history of harvesting and selling off user data.
Do you really think they also don't harvest all your data when using their ai models?

At least DeepSeek is open about the data they collect, and it's open source. Where as grok/openai/copilot/facebook is a big Questionmark. Who knows what they collect about you.

If you really care about privacy, EU's GDPR is a good starting point.

I would definitely not use it for anything work-related, as a software engineer.

I have no illusions about Western AI chatbots and tools, but China is a whole next level low as far as accountability and morals go.

I looked into it, and the only time Meta/Amazon etc. face consequences for data privacy breaches is when they break GDPR in EU.
So maybe give examples to backup your claim.
Remind me, how much Meta settled for US lawsuit over Cambridge Analytica improper data handling? I'll spare you the trouble - $725 million dollars.

Let's explore Google for a sec, settled for about half a billion USD over GPS tracking users that opted out in the US.

Even Amazon had a small lawsuit for $40m regarding data privacy in the US.

Are my claims backed up?

The defeatist attitude contained in this is terribly rank.

Not all is lost on the "data harvesting(data theft)/selling user data" front in the computing world, so its unnecessary to proclaim oh woe is me and throw up a "they're all the same" front. The ones who do not do data theft haven't done anything to deserve this broad brush.

lol like if windows, google, meta X, and apple (among many others) weren't doing this for decades now.

People worry to much and then give all their personal and medical information to some worker in a hospital to feed into a private health system, that its as secure as a paper house door and windows.
