Chkdsk scan and repair has located errors on my WD Elements 2 gb external drive but cannot repair them.

Update: Doesn't appear my full post made it through. Looking for any utilities/help/advice on other ways to assess and fix errors. Windows event viewer gave the following error message when fixes failed. I'm not savvy enough to know what they mean. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Chkdsk was executed in read/write mode.

Solution
I can't really say about another program that might fix it.

The NAS is a possibility if it isn't setup right or not working right as a NAS it could corrupt the files on the drive.

How old is this drive and is it still under warranty? I would suggest making a backup because it looks like the drive is failing. I would also suggest getting the information that you really need off of it quick. You have cross linked files and unreadable sectors.

Thanks for the tip. I purchased the drive 2.5 years ago. I am already trying to get all of the data onto another drive. No way to attempt to fix these bad sectors or cross linked files other than chksk?

Not to get off topic, but I had no problems with this drive until recently. I plugged it into my router and started using it as nas at home a few weeks ago. Any chance using it as nas could have contributed to the problems it's having now? Seems like a hell of a coincidence. Thanks again.
