Chkdsk problem

Hi,

I've been trying to *cough* fix my step-daughter's laptop (Compaq 6720) after it refused to start WinXp and the hard disk had started to 'hiccup'. After performing chkdskthroughout the night it finally (!) finished this morning but now shows "non-system error or disk error / replace and strike any key when ready". As her pc has an Oem-version of WinXp, we don't have the original.

Any suggestions? I know how to read-out the hard disk if it has really crashed but would like to try other options first. Any help and/or suggestions are much appreciated!

Never mind, the cat just switched it off (jumped on the laptop). I'll wait a few minutes and then see whether it wants to restart. Thanks anyways ;-)
