Chkdsk question

Hello,
I just installed a new 750 gig harddrive on my HP Laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit OS. I ran a chkdsk on this drive and it stops at the 25% point and will not continue. Do I have a bad drive?

The question isn't what is the largest HD the OS will support..but what is
the largest HD your mobo controllers will support.
