chkdsk returned a lot of bad clusters

I'm used to seeing one or two things pop up when i run windows' check disk application however this time all 3 of my hard drives returned a significant number of bad clusters. two are 500GB and the other a one month old 3TB i was looking to move on to. storage information is below.


motherboard: ASUS P8Z68V PRO
OCZ Vertex 4 256GB RAID0 (yes i know its risky)
OCZ Vertex 3 60GB
WD Caviar Green 500GB
Segate Barracuda 500GB
Segate Barracuda 3TB


i ran a full set of disk checks across all the drives and the SSD's returned fit as a fiddle, however all the hard drives spat out 50+ "windows replaced bad clusters in file *random-numbers*". I've by hand checked most of the files it listed and all of them now had issues but i have backups of most of the data. the SMART data for the drives all look OK, nothing particularly standing out as odd (out side of the broken temperature sense on my OCZ Vertex 3). i have not recently had a power failure (especially not sense i last ran a disk check) and the files that all had issues were written months to years ago. windows does have logs form last week stating that there were controller errors on my new 3TB which is what prompted me to run the scan.


Should i get new hard drives and dump the current set, or stick it out and see if it gets worse?

I would be monitoring your Voltages... Your PSU may be failing and taking parts with it.

funny you say that, i have had some odd behavior out of my system under extreme loads over the last few months. the PSU is pretty old now, 5 years. i will list my parts below for a complete system information

PSU: Real Power Pro 650W <--- oldest part in the system, its 5 years old and from a previous system build.


i will start closely monitoring the voltages.
