CHKDSK takes a lot of time.

I was turning off my PC, when an update starting installing. Computer after it was done computer turned off normally. Then after few hours I turn on the computer and go make a cup of coffee. When I come back I see that computer started to do CHKDSK check, so I decided to wait. After 8 hours it completed 6320 file records of 17152, stage 1 of 3. I am worried, that there is something very wrong. The check isn't stuck. There are a lot of errors on the screen. HDD is 140GB, secondary.
PC specs:
Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0Ghz
4GB RAM
Gigabyte ATI Radeon R7 240 OC Edition.

That doesn't sound good for your hard drive. I would replace that drive as soon as possible.

Is it possible to cancel CHKDSK, and then replace the hard drive ? Data on the old one is pretty important, and I don't have any backups.

Anyway, I waited. And after deleting some files, the CHKDSK is now stuck at Index verification completed.
Maybe it's done?

No, it's not done. When the process completes it will present a summary, wait about 5-10 seconds, then reboot. If you interrupt it you could cause irreparable damage to the filesystem. This doesn't bode well for the drive.

It finished an hour ago, but now the Windows just doesn't recognize it. Gonna take it to a data recovery dude.
